Are You On The List?

What do small communities named Grainfield, Cloudcroft, Ligonier, Needles, Winslow, Ruidoso, Dresden, Tucumcari, Van Buren, Canyon, Greenville and Elk City have in common? They’re just a few of the places where wonderful people have invited us to visit, stay and/or break bread at a favorite local eatery during our 8,000 mile DISCOVER SMALL TOWN AMERICA TOUR and celebration this summer.

Tell us where to go and what to do. Pass the word. We want to hear from you, your friends and family about their top choice to visit, stay and eat as we cross the Country searching for the best that small town America has to offer. We’ll take I-40 to the west coast and return via I-70 to the east coast. Be a part of the action! Help us discover and shine the spotlight on some America’s most amazing off-the-beaten-path places and people.

  1. Come to Courtland, Scandia, or Cuba Kansas! Courtland has the “world-famous” Pinky’s Bar and Grill with award-winning chicken fried steak, Scandia has TAG’s Bar and Grill with amazing southwestern chicken salad and pretty much everything else, and Cuba has Two Doors Down Cafe and Bar with awesome smoked meats (brisket is a must!).

    • Thanks Jenny for your area’s great “shout out”. Sounds awesome and we’re going to try and build it in The DSTA itinerary. We’ll be featuring pictures of Cuba taken by the amazing artist Jim Richardson on the Everything Small Town™ FB page.

  2. Directly off SRT 40 and I-70 is the oh so lovely town of Zanesville, OH. Now get me wrong I’ve lived here around here my life but needless to say it’s you get a wide variety of people here. Dave’s grill’n’chillin on Linden Ave is awesome! All homemade food including sauces, great pulled pork. If you’re around in the evening and don’t mind the bar scene a good fun place to hang out on the river is Terry’s Tavern, also in Linden Ave.

    • Thanks Megan for these great suggestions. Looks like Zanesville is on our way heading back East and it’s great to know there’s some “good eats” along the route! Look for our Prius (with the “Discover Small Town America Tour” sign) and honk when you see us!

  4. Bart, you are definitely the modern age Jack Kerouac. All that remains to put a capstone on it all is to finish the trip and write “On The Road With Bart and Rorie Russell.” I hope the trip is the first of many.
